Virginia H. (Meier) Bechteler

Virginia “Ginny” (Meier) Bechteler, 85, of Syracuse, NY died peacefully at home on Friday
with her husband by her side. She was born in Syracuse on December 16, 1935 to the late Alois
and Hilda Meier. She was a graduate of Assumption Catholic Academy and worked at Baldwin-
Hall until she took on her greatest role of mother and homemaker. Although deaf from birth,
Ginny managed to make a loving home for herself, husband, and children. She was a
Eucharistic Minister and volunteer, always with a smiling face, at her parish. Ginny was a
member of the German American Society of CNY and a model for the Guild Fashionata. Ginny and Willy
enjoyed traveling and visited many countries around the world. She was an avid swimmer in
summers and skier in winters. She had a beautiful smile that shone when she spoke of her
travels or of her grandchildren.
Virginia is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Wilhelm, four children –
Rosemarie(Timothy) Bush, Mark(Valerie), Donald, Heidi(James) Sanders, eight grandchildren,
three great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10:00am in Assumption Church. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
