Sandra Rougeau Kane (71) of Syracuse passed away on March 8, 2023
surrounded by the love and support of family and friends after a courageous
battle with cancer.
Sandy was predeceased by her loving husband, Deacon Thomas Kane, her
father Clarence (Bud) Rougeau, sister-in-law Barbara Baker, her brother-in-
law David Kane and stepbrother Joseph Metallo Jr.
Sandy grew up in Eastwood and was a member of the first graduating class of
Bishop Grimes High School. Following high school she earned her degree in
Social Work from Nazareth College of Rochester. Sandy was blessed with
lifelong friends from both Bishop Grimes and Nazareth College who will miss
her dearly. She went on to work for over 35 years for the Onondaga County
Department of Social Services.
Community involvement was important to Sandy, which included activities at
St. Daniel’s Parish and the food pantry at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Spending time with her “Bunco Buddies” always put a smile on her face. And
much like Dorothy, she enjoyed her trips “Down The Yellow Brick Road”. Her
greatest joys were time spent with her children, granddaughters and family.
Sandy is survived by her son, Sean (Tequina) Kane of Camano Island WA,
daughter, Lauren (Joseph) Greco of Syracuse and granddaughters Jhonny and Lilah.
She is also survived by her mother, Betty (Joseph) Metallo; brothers
Tom (Nancy), Gary (Lillian) John (Joyce) and Larry (Kathy Durkin), sisters
Mary and Patty (Roger) Auger; brothers-in law John (Darlene) Kane and
Edwin Baker. In the year 2000, Sandy welcomed an additional eleven
brothers and sisters to the family when her mother married Joe Metallo Sr.
She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Special thanks to all of Sandy’s family and friends who have been so kind and
caring throughout this journey.
