Richard (Chris) Simone, 66, of Syracuse passed away on Tuesday with his family by his side. He was a life long resident of Syracuse. Chris graduated in 1975 from Henninger High School and later his Masters in Criminal Justice from Columbia College. Chris served 37 years in local law enforcement beginning with Syracuse Police in 1978 and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, before retiring at the rank of Detective Sergeant, receiving numerous bureau and departmental commendations during his service career.
Also, as a fingerprint specialist with other forensic science skills, Chris enlisted voluntarily with the federal government disaster mortuary operational response team (DMORT), eventually to be deployed to participate in the massive response to the terrorist attack on 9-11 at ground zero in lower Manhattan, working on the recovery and identification of the souls that perished.

He taught criminal justice classes at both Syracuse University and SUNY Morrisville. After his retirement from the Sheriff's Department he worked as Corporate Security Director for Community Bank. Chris was an active volunteer with the Howlett Hill Fire Department. Chris was predeceased by a sister Susan in 1980.

Chris is survived by his wife of 39 years former Catherine Nave, a daughter Rachel (Eric) Ludwig, two sons Stephen and Austin Simone, two sisters Teresa (Jon) Cleland, and Mary (Vinny) Dell'Olio, three grandchildren Will, Jack and Emma.

Mass of Christian Burial Monday March 18th at 1PM in St. Patrick's Church 216 N. Lowell St. Syracuse. Burial in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday 4-7pm at Gang Memorial Chapel 104 Fordham Rd. at Teall Ave. 

Contributions in lieu of flowers to St. Patrick's Church or Howlett Hill Fire Department.
