Joseph E. Jarvis, 99, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Buffalo NY, Joe served in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Alaska. Following graduation from Sampson College, Joe was employed as a Draftsman at the General Electric Company in Syracuse for 32 years. An avid golfer until his early 70s, Joe was the recipient of numerous trophies and awards. He also served as President of the 8's & Dates Square Dance Club in Eastwood where he and his wife Betty danced for over 20 years. Joe enjoyed tobogganing with his family, fishing with his wife and grandkids, and cross-country skiing with dear friends at Green Lakes State Park. He especially enjoyed three lengthy vacations in the Hawaiian Islands, where he engaged his interest in scenic photography. In his later years, Joe became an active member of the Frank DeFrancisco Eastwood Community Center of Syracuse. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church for over 60 years.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Helen Jarvis, brother Arthur (Adele) Jarvis, sister Stella (Donald) Metz, brother-in-law Gerald Brzycky, and son-in-law Dr. Joseph P. Bartelli.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Elizabeth Jarvis (Adamaszek), a son Wayne Jarvis, daughter Judy (Bob) Hayes, sister Theresa Brzycky, grandchildren Amanda, Whitney, Aaron and Jakob, great-granddaughter Ava, and several nieces and nephews.
Services at 10:00 am Saturday at Gang Memorial Chapel; Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in Blessed Sacrament Church. Entombment in Woodlawn Mausoleum. Calling hours are Friday 4-7 pm at the funeral home, 104 Fordham Rd. at Teall Ave.
