Henry K Pfaff, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 26, 1930 to Justus and Katharina Pfaff, in Niederaula, Germany.
In 1953, Henry came to Syracuse to be with his sister Annaliese. There he met his future wife, Mary Schreiner. In 1954 he was drafted into the US Army, serving in Washington DC as part of President Eisenhower's honor guard and later being stationed in Germany only an hour from his hometown. During his time in the Army, he became an American citizen.
He was a communicant of St. Matthew's Church. Henry worked for Lamson/Diebold as a welder/assembler for over 30 years and also worked at the Carrier Dome as a ticket taker for 24 years in retirement. Over the years Henry was an active participant and board member of many organizations including the Fly Road Scholarship Fund, the German American Society, the Lorton Lake Association, ESM Band and Sports Boosters. He was a hard worker and always willing to help those in need. Henry was a loving husband, father and Opa. He enjoyed spending time at his family's summer house at Lorton Lake with family and friends. Henry will be remembered for his German sayings, sense of humor and his infectious smile.
Henry is predeceased by siblings Annaliese and Georg, and the love of his life Mary. He is survived by his three children, Catherine (Michael) Riley, Margaret (Sean) Shea, and Richard Pfaff, granddaughters Meghan (Jeffrey) Thomas, Erin (Jason) Newton, Siobhan Shea, Fiona Shea, great grandchildren Laila and Maggie Thomas, and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday October 28, 2023 at 1:00PM in St. Matthew's Church. Burial St. Mary's Cemetery, Minoa. Calling hours will be Friday October 27, 2023 from 3-6 PM at Gang Memorial Chapel 104 Fordham Road Syracuse, NY.
