George Oehling, 88, of Syracuse died in his Onondaga Hill home on Wednesday.  He was born in New York City in 1934. 

George served with the US Army during the Korean War as a radar repair specialist.  He was a graduate of Pratt Institute in Electrical Engineering, a member of the Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu engineering honorary societies, and the Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineers. 

He worked for the Atomic Energy Commission and worked at General Electric for 34 years developing military radar systems, where he was awarded several patents for his work.  At GE, he was Manager of Advanced Development Engineering and Technical Director of the Radar Systems Department.  

George was a member of The Atonement Lutheran Church, a proud Town of Onondaga Republican Party Committeeman, past President of the Arion Stein Club, and member of the Tuscarora Golf Club.  He enjoyed woodworking and oil painting as hobbies.  He was predeceased by his wife Christa of 59 years in 2015.

George is survived by three children, Eric (Kathy) Oehling, Susan (John) Lazarus, and George Oehling, a sister, Linda Stewart, and three grandchildren, Madeleine, Jack, and Emily.

Services will be private with no calling hours.  He will be laid to rest with his wife Christa in St. Mary's Mausoleum, Dewitt.
