Robert J. Sabella, 85, of Syracuse (Lyncourt) passed peacefully on Tuesday. He was a graduate of Smith Technical School in 1957. Bob met the love of his life at the age of 16 and married in 1960 after he served in the US Navy. He retired in 2004 after a long careers with Bristol Myers, Advertising Dimensions and Paper Conversion Inc. Bob was a member of the Midstate Miata Club for over 30 years and won oodles of trophies for his little red car. He was also an avid model train enthusiast for over 40 years and built a layout that covered much of the basement. He devoted his time as an usher and council member at St. Daniel's Church. Bob enjoyed time with family and friends tailgating for SU Football, cruises, picnicking, Saturday Regional Market and gardening.
He was predeceased by his parents Salvatore and Lucy Sabella, a grandson Matthew Sabella.
Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years Veronica (Ronnie), two daughters Susan (Richard) Bentley and Sally Sabella, a son Steven (Deb) Sabella, 4 grandchildren Dan (Victoria) Carlin, Annabel (Jeremy) Raineri, Sam Carlin, Zachary (Zivi) Sabella, great grandchildren Alys and Leona Carlin and grand dogs Deeohgee and Lennie
The neighborhood knew Bob as the guy who was always outside caring for his lawn and beautiful flowers.
Mass of Christian Burial is Saturday May 24th at 10:00am in St. Daniel's Church. Burial in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday 4-6pm at the funeral home 104 Fordham Rd. at Teall Ave.
In lieu of flowers contributions to St. Daniel's Church or Rosamond Gifford Zoo.
