It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Martin Flynn, beloved father, grandfather, friend and esteemed veteran, who left us peacefully on February 7, 2026, at the age of 77. Born in Syracuse, NY, on June 27, 1948, James dedicated his life to his family, friends and to his country, serving honorably in the NYS 174th Air National Guard for 37 years where he attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. His commitment to excellence and his leadership qualities inspired those around him, and his legacy will forever be cherished.
James is survived by his loving son, Keith (Suzanne) Flynn of Port St. Lucie, FL his devoted daughter, Susan (Stephen France) Flynn of Montclair, VA: his adored granddaughter, Emily Flynn of Port St. Lucie, FL: his best friend Linda Flynn of Syracuse, NY; granddogs Seamus and Scarlett; numerous loved cousins and friends, all of whom were blessed to have him in their lives. He was a guiding light and a source of support for his family, instilling in them the values of strength, kindness, and perseverance.
James was preceded in death by his father James Flynn, mother Gladys (Osterdale) Salenske, Aunt Emily “Lee” Bolton and Uncle John (Jack) Bolton.
Services will take place 9:30 AM Thursday February 12, 2026, at St Daniel’s Church 2401 Court Street, Syracuse, NY, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.
James will be remembered not only for his service to our nation but also for the love he shared with his family and friends. His spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor James’s memory to consider a donation to Tunnels to Towers or Give Kids the World.
