Dr. Henry S. Balmer, 94, died September 28, 2016 in Syracuse, NY. Harry lived a life of service; to his family, his community, his church, and his country. Harry was born in Albany, NY to Elizabeth and George Balmer. He served as a pilot in the US Army Air Corps, 1942 – 1944, flying over China with the Flying Tigers / 14th Air Force. He graduated from St. Lawrence University (BS) and Syracuse University (EdD). In 1947, he married Rieta Albert Balmer in Norwich, NY. His career was spent as an educator in the Syracuse City School District where he touched the lives of many students, families and educators. He retired as Assistant Superintendent in 1990. Harry very much loved his family. He is preceded in death by his son Scott and wife, Rieta. He is survived by: sister Anna (Balmer) Holtz; daughters Deborah Meyer and Heidi Mosher; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Memorial Service Tuesday at 4:30pm in St. David's Espiscopal Church, Jamar Dr. Dewitt In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. David's Episcopal Church, Dewitt, NY or Hospice of Central NY.
