Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Jarvis, 100, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Thursday, 10/27 at Elderwood Senior Care Facility in Liverpool, where she had resided for almost two months.  Prior to this, Betty resided at Buckley Landing Assisted Living Facility in North Syracuse where she actively thrived for four memorable years. Born in Buffalo NY, Betty was raised by a foster family on a small farm in East Eden, NY until age 16, when she was employed as a second maid in a Buffalo bank president's mansion. When World War II broke out, Betty found employment at Buffalo Arms munitions division where she assembled gun parts. During that time, she met her future husband Joe at a company dance while he was on leave from the U.S. Navy. They were married in 1947 and soon moved to Syracuse where Joe was employed as a draftsman for General Electric and Betty became a homemaker. After adopting their two children, Betty and Joe became avid square dancers at the Eights & Dates Club in Eastwood for over 20 years. They also enjoyed cross country skiing with dear friends, tobogganing with family and friends, and fishing with their four grandkids at area lakes and streams. They especially enjoyed three lengthy vacations in the Hawaiian Islands, two Caribbean cruises and traveling to various state and U.S. national parks.  In her later years, Betty became an active member of the Frank DeFrancisco Eastwood Community Center. With her fun-loving personality, Betty enrolled at 'Krigg's Clown College' and earned a certificate in 'clownology' in 1989 when she became 'Nuna the Clown', a childhood nickname. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church for over 60 years. Betty was predeceased by her husband of over 71 years, Joseph Jarvis, her parents, Thomas and Sophie Adamaszek, brothers Frank (Elizabeth) and Rudolph (Adele) Adamaszek and son-in-law Dr. Joseph P. Bartelli. Survivors include a son Wayne Jarvis, daughter Judy (Bob) Hayes, sister- in-law Theresa Brzycky, four grandchildren six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
