Obituary

Edmund M. Fabisiak March 14, 2016 Edmund (Ed) Marian Fabisiak of Dewitt NY passed away into the arms of the Lord at age 90 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse NY on Monday, March 14.  Edmund was born to the late Ignacy and Anna (Kucharski) Fabisiak on January 28, 1926 in Phoenix, New York.  Edmund was the youngest of a large family and shared many fond memories of that time growing up on a farm.  In 1943, he enlisted in the Navy and served honorably in the Atlantic Fleet as an Aviation Machinist's Mate aboard the USS Bogue, the most successful anti-submarine aircraft carrier in WWII.  Upon his return home he went to work for the Syracuse Post-Standard as a stereotyper in July of 1947 and remained with the Syracuse newspapers until his retirement from the Herald Journal 38 years later. On May 26, 1951, he married Virginia Rajkowski who remained his loving wife for 65 years.  In their later years together, Ed unselfishly devoted himself to her needs and comfort in the face of her ailing health.  He will be remembered as a modest and quiet smiling man of virtue and hard work, as well as, a loving father/grandfather, devoted husband, steadfast friend, and generous neighbor.  Ed was an avid outdoorsman and loved nothing better than to spend a day fishing or hiking with his son as together they explored the many wild and natural places of New York and Canada with the Adirondack Mountains being amongst their favorites.  He relished making his grandson laugh and watching him grow into a young man.  His friendly conversation, perpetual smile, and genuine compassion endeared him to his neighbors.  He is pre-deceased by his parents, his wife, sisters Hattie (Toman), Helen (Rudolph), Lucille (Koval), Irene (Tyson), and brothers William, John, and Theodore. He is survived by his son James (Margaret Schramm), grandson Luke, and sister Regina (Hayes), as well as many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 4 - 7 PM Friday at Gang Memorial Chapel 104 Fordham Rd. at Teall Ave. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday 10AM in Holy Cross Church. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in his memory to the Holy Cross Church Building Fund (Holy Cross Church, 4112 E Genesee St, Syracuse, NY 13214).
